DJI Announce Product Changes for 2017

Mavic Pro hold, Phantom 4 terminated! Shortly after people reported receiving their Mavic Pro direct from DJI within a week of ordering, DJI has sent an email to dealers advising that production of the Phantom 4 has ceased and that production of the Mavic Pro will stop until the end of January, 2017. The email says that this break in production is due to Chinese New Year, which is January 28.

Email to authorised DJI dealers on January, 2017 read:

“Hi Dealers

This is an update as of this morning on DJI Products.

DJI Mavic Pro and Mavic Pro Combo

Although production is releasing more and more crafts, DJI have announced that they are withholding all production to service their own clients on DJI.COM until the end of January 2017. The end of January 2017 is Chinese New Year, where we can expect a 2 to 3 week break in production, so it does not look good for us. At this stage, Please warn your customers that the Stock of the Mavic Pro and the Mavic Pro Combo is severely limited, but we hope that by March 2017 DJI get to the point where they have sufficient production.

DJI Phantom 4

The Phantom 4 production is terminated. We still have some stock left.

DJI Phantom 3 Advanced and Professional

The Phantom 3 Advanced and Professional production is terminated.

Phantom 4 Pro and Pro Plus

Once DJI get the Mavic Pro production sorted out, the consumer drones will be limited to the Mavic Pro, the Phantom 4 Pro and the Phantom 4 Pro Plus.”

Why the termination of some DJI products?

Even though the Phantom 4 has had a short life (less than 1 year), this could be in anticipation of a high demand for the Mavic Pro. Ceasing production of the Phantom 4 could also be due to less than expected sales figures combined with the release of the Phantom 4 Pro, or they could be focusing their efforts towards the Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom 4 Pro Plus, with a shift towards commercial and professional drone applications.

The Phantom 3 has run its course and will be deleted like most technology life cycles.

What about shipment of DJI products over Chinese New Year?

As DJI mentioned in their dealer email, shipment and production will be on hold over the CNY. All we know for now is that the elusive Mavic Pro will become even rarer over the coming weeks, with DJI hopefully catching up on production and shipments to have a massive 2017!

Our advice, scoop up a Mavic Pro RIGHT NOW direct from DJI before they shutdown for Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year!
